Ya.S.Budjak. Second law of nonequilibrium thermodynamics and Seebeck effect in conductive crystals. Journal of Thermoelectricity. 2004,  No. 4. - p.49-52.
Seebeck effect has a wide application in various instruments of solid state electronics, including thermoelectric power generators. The paper shows that thermoelectric figure of merit of such generators is n=ZT , where T is crystal temperature, and Z is figure of merit of thermoelectric materials. This relationship follows from the second law of non-equilibrium thermodynamics.

P.I.Baransky, G.P.Gaidar. Microanalysis of the internal structure of quantum dots related to estimates of Z for thermoelectric converters based on three-dimensional superlattices. Journal of Thermoelectricity. 2004,  No. 4. - p.53-58.
Based on the literature data, the structure of nanoclusters and quantum dots related to estimates of Z=alpha2sigma/kappa was analyzed. Àttention was focused on the fact that when performing theoretical calculations of properties of 1D-, 2D- or 3D-superlattices and comparing the results to the experimental data one should take into account that structural elements of the investigated superlattices (i.e. superthin layers, quantum wires or quantum dots) neither in their structure nor in their physical and chemical properties can be identified to the properties or parameters of the bulk substance (or chemical element) they are created of. Moreover, with regard to the peculiarities of manufacturing technique, one should not forget that neither in their size nor in their shape nor even in their composition the nanoobjects can be identical. The foregoing can affect considerably the conclusions following from comparison of theoretical calculations to the experimental data.

À.F.Semizorov. Effect of microdefects on thermoEMF anisotropy of CdSb crystals of stoichiometric composition. Journal of Thermoelectricity. 2004,  No. 4. - p.59-62.
ThermoEMF anisotropy (DeltaAlpha) at 300 Ê was studied on CdSb samples, subject to thermal treatment in the range of temperatures 350-475 Ê. Formation of Frenkel defects in CdSb was shown to be the main reason for DeltaAlpha reduction.

O.M. Krylyuk, E.M. Kosenkov, H.I. Rarenko, V.P. Shafranyuk. INFLUENCE OF CHEMICAL AND MECHANICAL TREATMENT ON THE SURFACE PARAMETERS OF ÑdSb CRYSTALS FOR THERMOELECTRIC DEVICES. Journal of Thermoelectricity. 2004,  No. 4. - p.63-70.
The paper presents the results of investigation on the influence of various methods for surface treatment of CdSb monocrystals of (100), (010), (001) orientation as materials for thermoelectric devices. The Auger electron spectroscopy methods were used to determine the content of intrinsic and foreign elements in the depth of damaged layer of the samples obtained.
Measurement of half-width of ?-scanning curves and peak intensity of the Bragg reflection of X-rays was used to determine structural perfection of damaged surface area and deep within CdSb crystals, as well as topography and dislocation density in the range of 10 < Nd < 102 ñm-2.

Results of the investigation of volt-watt sensitivity of anisotropic optiicothermoelement (AOT) at thermostating of its lateral faces depending on the degree of the optical transparence are presented. Utilization of such AOT in throughput power mode allows to record radiant fluxes of high density.

Peculiarities of methods for measuring the energy of single current pulses are considered, the advantage of method based on measuring the value of output thermoEMF E(t) is shown.

S.O.Filin. Rational organization of heat exchange in the chamber of thermoelectric cooler. Journal of Thermoelectricity. 2004,  No. 4. - p.82-89.
Comparitive analysis of constructions and spatial arrangement of thermoelectric cooling units is made from the standpoint of efficiency of heat exchange between the cold sink and air in the chamber of cooler. The results of experimental study of the influence of fan operating mode in the chamber on such temperature characteristics of cooler as minimum temperature in the chamber, temperature non-uniformity along chamber height, air-sink temperature difference are presented.
