ITA ACADEMICIAN STATUS
1. The order of ITA Academician election
1.1. Requirements to the ITA Academician candidates. According to ITA Statute, a person can be proposed for ITA Academician election if he meets the following requirements: According to ITA Statute,a persons, who meet the following requirements can be
1.2. The order of nomination for ITA academician election. To consider the matter of ITA Academician election, the following procedure is used.
1.2.2. On receiving such a solicitation letter, ITA Bureau informs of this solicitation the person who is nominated for ITA Academician election. ITA Bureau proposes him to file the following documents: - written consent to be elected ITA academician, - curriculum vitae, - the list of publications on thermoelectricity, including monographs, - documents on the defended thesis on thermoelectricity, - information on the disciples trained by the nominee in the field of thermoelectricity, - other documents by the nominee's option characterizing the nominee as a leading scientist (i.e. the availability of achievements, opinions of the leading scientists, etc), - the nominee's consent to come to ITA General Meeting with a report on his research and scientific and technical contribution to thermoelectricity.
1.2.3. ITA Bureau sends information on ITA Academician election to ITA Vice-President, curator of the respective region of the world. The Vice-President gives his conclusion on the nominee in written form. The Vice-President can offer nominees from his region himself
1.2.4. On receiving the documents in conformity with item 1.2.2, ITA Bureau determines the date for the matter of ITA academician election consideration at ITA General Meeting and informs ITA members accordingly.
1.2.5. On ITA members' request, they can receive copies of indicated in item 1.2.2.documents on the persons proposed for ITA Academicians election.
1.3. Procedure of ITA Academician election at ITA General Meeting.
1.3.1. The matter of ITA Academician election is considered in the presence of more than 50% of ITA Academicians.
1.3.2. The nominee for ITA Academician rank makes a report on his scientific and technical achievements in thermoelectricity.
1.3.3. Chairman of ITA General Meeting informs ITA members of the received documents concerning the nominee in conformity with items 1.2.2 and 1.2.3 of this Status.
1.3.4. ITA members make a decision if the nominee should be entered on the list of persons for secret voting by open vote.
1.3.5. To carry out secret voting, the Counting Committee comprising three persons is elected. The Counting Committee fills in the bulletins for secret voting. The bulletin form is worked out and approved by ITA Bureau.
1.3.6. The Chairman holds secret voting, and the Counting Committee determines the secret voting results to be written to the Counting Commission protocol.
1.3.7. Academician is considered elected, provided 2/3 of ITA Academicians present at the General Meeting have voted in favor.
1.3.8. The protocols of the Counting Committee are approved by majority of votes of ITA General Meeting members.
1.4. The elected ITA Academician is given a Diploma confirming his election. The international community is informed of ITA Academician election via "Journal of Thermoelectricity" and International Thermoelectric Society Newsletters, TV, radio and other means of communication.
1.5. A copy of ITA Statute regulating ITA activity is sent by ITA Bureau to the elected ITA Academician.
2. ITA Academicians act in conformity with the rights and duties of ITA members stated in ITA Statute
2.1. The authors of the work, the ITA academicians, other persons and organizations can submit proposals for consideration.
2.2. To take part in the competition, the following documents are necessary: 1) a letter to ITA with a proposal to consider the work; 2) materials of the work (scientific publications, patent descriptions, books, etc.) in a form sufficient for understanding the work proposed.

3. Competition procedure
3.1. As a rule, submitted works are considered during a regular International Forum on Thermoelectricity. The authors of the work (or other person empowered by the authors) give a brief presentation on the work content.
3.2. Submitted works are considered by the ITA Competition Commission. The ITA Competition Commission including three ITA academicians is elected at the ITA Presidium meeting by open voting.
3.3. The ITA Competition Commission makes a decision as to the work conformity to the requirements of item 1.4 of this Status and the possibility of submitting the work for the competition and passes this decision to the ITA Presidium.
3.4. On discussing the work, the ITA Presidium makes a decision to award the Diploma by open voting.
3.5. The Diplomas are handed to the winners at the ITA Presidium meeting or at the ITA General meeting.
